I don’t usually post selfies – but this is from a video I filmed, to introduce a community arts project that I launched this week: Spreading Peace, Love & Joy – one Heart at a time.

I nearly didn’t launch the project – it seemed like the timing was wrong, what with having Cyberknife radiotherapy scheduled for Friday (as well as next Monday and Tuesday) to treat breast cancer metastases in my brain again.

I decided to go ahead because I feel so passionately about this, and I’ve been wanting to do it for a while.

But I’ve also never run a community project before.

One of my friends, Eli Trier, has run a few community art projects. I even contributed to one of them, last year: Naked Money.

And then, of course, there are the quarterly community photo challenges that Susannah Conway runs – which I generally join in on Instagram and my blog.

But I felt their projects always required a lot of effort: sending out daily e-mails or thinking up a different prompt for each day.

I knew I wouldn’t have the energy for that – so I decided to keep it simple.

“Spreading Peace, Love & Joy – one Heart at a time” is about making hearts and leaving them in public places, so that someone can find them and take them home – and hopefully feel a little better about the world as a result.

There are no rules – each person can do whatever they like!

It’s an idea I’ve had for a while – since 2016, in fact, when the world seemed to go mad and social media was filled with fear and negativity. Unfortunately, I had to take a break from creative projects for a while, when I became ill.

The level of fear and negativity in the world has improved a little since then, but I thought positivity could still do with a little push!

I have no idea how the project will go – but a few people have already joined in, and have said how much they love the idea, so I’m feeling positive about it!

I’m even thinking how wonderful it would be, if the project were to go viral on a global scale!!

So if you’d like to join in too, you’re very welcome. And please invite your friends. 🙂

Thank you so much Marie – for your comments, for joining in and for spreading the word! x

  3. So many thoughts! Happy belated birthday – I am so, SO grateful you’re still creating, surviving, thriving, caring and sharing and all the things that make you you. I will leave a heart somewhere, I’m still grateful you’re my very own personal guide to London – pub wellies…who knew! – and I look forward to reading about your decades of travel adventures. I’ve also bookmarked the Canon video to share with folk -such an eye opener – but why do I keep thinking that in blethering to him, you and I might have intuited something ‘off’ and then inadvertently shown him looking secretive or guarded? Anyway, m’dear, it’s good to be back. I’ll be blogging again soon if my usual deciduous patterns recycle themselves, but I just wanted to wish you well and to say sorry for being such an on and off friend. I tend to withdraw when I don’t want to risk dumping my own stuff on folk who’ve enough of their own going on. Take care! Here’s to unwobbly legs! I hope the treatments aren’t leaving you feeling too wrecked. Oh, and it was LOVELY to see and hear you in the video! You have a kind and beautiful voice.

Thank you Janice – it was such a treat to find your comment just now. I’ve missed you!! I totally get what you mean about not wanting to risk dumping your own stuff on folk – I didn’t write anything for a while myself, but it’s good to be back and I look forward to being able to catch up with your blog again soon, hopefully. x
