When we love and serve others,
we find true happiness
This statement was posted on Facebook recently – but I take issue with it. In my opinion, we need to find true happiness first. And the only way to achieve that is to love and serve ourselves. This is not selfish. It’s self-preservation.
We need to find what makes us come alive.
I’ve spent my entire life (so far) “doing” things for other people, because I have held the belief that, if I’m not doing something for someone else, then I’m nobody. The 30 day challenge I’ve set myself, to write a blog post every day, is an opportunity for me to find out, through writing, whether that’s true – or false!
As of yet, I have no idea what I shall be writing about – well, no, that’s not entirely true. I have a number of ideas, and lots of inspiring videos (by other people) that I’d like to share. Maybe I’ll even do a video or two of my own!
Other than that, though, I have no particular plans for what to write – except that it’s going to be about my story, including things that inspire me, frighten me, make me laugh, or teach me something I don’t know (as long as they also inspire me, frighten me or make me laugh).
It’s going to be a voyage of discovery into:
a) whether I can write that regularly without running out of ideas completely, and
b) whether I have anything interesting to say, other than how to improve the SEO on your website, deliver coaching and training programmes online, or promote yourself online.
The truth is, I never really wanted this blog to be about business – I wanted it to be about inspiration. But it’s been difficult to drag myself away from the business focus, simply because – as I said – I feel the need to be doing something that people will find “useful”, rather than simply navel gazing or talking about things I’m interested in, which seems a bit self-indulgent.
Finding Happiness – The 30 Day Writing Challenge
Well, all that’s going to change! No more “doing” – for 30 days, at least. Instead, I’m going to be exploring my own creativity, with no purpose in mind other than to lead by example. After all, if I want to encourage YOU to live a creatively fulfilled life, then I need to show that I’m also living a creatively fulfilled life! Anything less would be unauthentic.
This is a big gamble for me! My biggest fear is that my loyal newsletter subscribers will take umbrage and leave me in droves – which is why I shan’t be sending daily updates unless you subscribe to the special 30 day challenge mailing list – below.
What would be great is if you would like to join me, by taking up your own 30 day challenge. It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as it’s something that really speaks to you – something that’s a bit of a challenge – something you’ve wanted to do for a long time and haven’t “got round to it yet”. (you know what I mean!!). If you like, you can also send me updates on your progress – that’s optional, though. No pressure!
What would be great, though, is if you could share something on Facebook or Twitter – I’ve even created a hashtag for it!
My 30 day challenge runs from Monday 11th June 2012 until Tuesday 10th July 2012 – there’s no time like the present, when it comes to getting started on something that could change your life!
If you’d like to follow my progress, and help to hold me accountable to my promise to write every day, you can follow my progress on Facebook and Twitter #30DWC. And please – do leave comments!
