April Love - Day 3 - inspiring quote from Howard Thurman

Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.
~ Howard Thurman

Every now and then, Susannah Conway publishes a series of daily photo prompts. This month, the theme is “April Love” – which is all about self-care.

I have always found it difficult to keep up with any kind of daily routine – including posting daily photographs – but I think it’s interesting that I have found posting photographs for this April Love series even more difficult than usual.

I wonder why? Is it because I feel overwhelmed by the daily e-mails, encouraging me to take better care of myself? Or is it because I’m too busy doing stuff that I’m loving anyway, and the topic is no longer so relevant to me?

Whatever… I shall endeavour to persevere. But for now, all I have is this inspirational quote and the list of prompts.

  1. Hi, Julia,
I’m afraid I couldn’t follow the list above, as well intentioned, fun and challenging as the prompts are. I think I have an awkward rebellious streak, but I couldn’t tell you where my ‘line’ is drawn until something feels like I’d be crossing it. I think daily challenges would push me over the line. Your weekly ones felt do-able.

I smiled wryly in empathy when I read what you said about your inbox being full of emails urging you to take better care of yourself. Whenever I log back on, I’m always so invigorated and happy that I subscribe to lots of positive blogs that inspire or entertain me and then after a week or two away, I can’t believe the logjam of ‘positive invocations’ in my inbox.

I’ve become almost evangelical about only logging on when I feel like it, commenting where I feel like it, and spending any time offline balancing the family have to’s with doing what I want to do, what makes me happy. I tend to assume that when bloggers go silent, that’s what they’re doing, too. I must apologise for not assuming, here, though; I don’t like assuming when it comes to people’s health.

I think this will be the last daily prompts photo challenge that I sign up for, Janice. I still haven’t done photos for any of the other prompts, and I’ve been getting behind with posting the weekly photos too – so something’s gotta give!

I keep making the same mistake: I started off with the intention of posting one photo per week; then I thought “well, if I’ve taken more than one photo, I might as well post more than one photo”; and then I set myself the challenge of publishing one video per week, in addition to the photos… and then this! When will I learn to take things easy, instead of trying to cram too much into too little time? NOW!!
