For the past 10 weeks, I’ve been creating a 15 second film for Instagram each Monday (or thereabouts), on a variety of topics, as part of Xanthe Berkeley’s “Make Films” course.

I’ve done pretty much all of Xanthe’s courses over the past 3 years, and this one has been the most fun, partly because Xanthe gives you a topic each week to get you started, and partly because it’s so much easier to do a 15 second video than a 2 minute video – so I’ve managed to do one every week!!

There’s been a wonderful sense of community among the participants on the course, on both Instagram and Vimeo. Everyone has really been inspired by Xanthe’s prompts, training videos and support, and so many have stepped up and shared their films each week – and that has encouraged me to do likewise.

And now that the course has ended (sob), I plan to keep on going!!

If you fancy having a go at making 15 second films for Instagram, try Xanthe Berkeley’s Make Films course!

Here are the films I’ve made during the 10 week course. You can find everyone else’s via the #makefilmscourse hashtag on Instagram.

  1. These are exquisite, Julia, like perfect wee haiku moments or soul portals! You have such a gift for blending the music and the images, and I love when folks’ multiple talents align like this! When will you be offering your own mini course in synching films or still photos to music? 😉

Thank you so much for that feedback Janice! I really love making these films – and the longer ones too. I’ve been thinking about offering a mini filming course – just haven’t got round to it yet. I’ll keep you posted… 🙂
